The US Chamber of Commerce and AmCham hosted H.E. Mr Farid Abboud / Lebanese Ambassador to the United States for a discussion on the Lebanese commercial climate at the US Chamber office in Washington DC and in the presence of Mr Daeman Harris/ US Chamber's Director of Middle East & Africa Affairs, Ms Jennifer Sublett / Economic & Commercial Officer at the US Embassy in Lebanon, and Ms Cherie Loustaunau/ Director – Office of the Middle East for the Department of Commerce. The discussion served also as a preview to the upcoming ‘Made in America’ trade fair to be held in Lebanon. May 25, 2005 – US Chamber of Commerce – Washington DC.

The latest political and economic developments were the highlights of the discussion. Ambassador Feltman expressed the US support to Lebanon in its efforts towards reform. This entertainment event followed the signing of the AmCham MENA Council Protocol. The President of the chamber took the opportunity to welcome and address the attendees, highlighting the necessity to improve the business climates in the whole MENA region. The event joined members from the AmChams of Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Morocco, Tunis and Algeria in the presence of many members of the diplomatic corps, media representatives and others. AmCham organized this 2-day high quality seminar in partnership with the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Club in Lebanon. This seminar, led by Mr. Kenneth Morse, Managing Director – MIT Entrepreneurship Center, was designed to enable CEOs and their top sales executives to be more effective in establishing long term, dependable, predictable, profitable and mutually beneficial, strategic customer relationships in Lebanon and abroad. Mr David Welch, Assistant Secretary at the US Department of State - Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs met with AmCham board members in presence of HE Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman. Mr Maher Beydoun, Vice President for Public Relations, welcomed the guests and described the current situation of the Lebanese-US relations. He mentioned the formation of the AmCham MENA Council, the upcoming 'Made in America 2005' trade fair, the scheduled chamber’s IT delegation visit to the US in December as well as the planned visit by AmChams of the region to the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington. This event was organized by the US Department of Commerce and the US Department of State, with the support of the American Lebanese Chamber of Commerce – AmCham Lebanon, to further strengthen the growing commercial relations between Lebanon and the United States. 'Made in America 2005' was an excellent opportunity for US companies to develop new partnerships in Lebanon and in the region. More than 300 exhibitors from 29 different sectors participated to this successful trade fair for US products and services, which was held for the third consecutive year. 7-9 November, 2005- BIEL
